Christmas/Holiday party Wrap-Up

All we can say is WOW! Our big party on December 13th was just incredible – thanks to YOU, our Boomers!!!

Boomers and friends who came out on the 13th were treated to a feast – a turkey dinner with tons of trimmings, gifts from a Secret Santa, a piano sing-along with Alex, desserts for days, and some of the warmest ambiance we’ve ever seen. So a huge thanks to you if you:

- cooked and shopped for the event

- organized gifts / wrapped presents

- offered drives for people

- made desserts / shared a family recipe

- showed up with a smile :-)

- made and prepared decorations

- helped clean up the place when we wrapped up

- what did I miss???

And don’t forget – the Drop-In reopens on January 10th, 2011, at 11:00 am as usual. So in the meantime, have a great little break and we so look forward to reconnecting with all of our Boomers in 2011. Keep well, stay safe, and Happy New Year!

Workshop Feedback

So a HUGE thank you to Connie Acton for her amazing 3-part series on "Dressing on a Dime, and Finding Your Personal Style"  .  People loved this series and the feedback was across-the-board exceptional.  Here's what some had to say:

"I'm more careful when I put myself together - I learned about watching for the quality of the material. I'm more discerning now" - Louise

"I always analyzed my wardrobe - this workshop confirmed for me what I had learned in the past - I don't question my style choices anymore. This workshop gave me the confidence to get back into sewing!" - Yvonne

"I'm attracted to colour, and this series taught me to use more colour in accessories" - Peggy

Connie is even thinking about pulling together another workshop series in the Spring, when we're thinking about wearing lighter clothes.  Keep your eyes glued to this space for more details to come!  Bravo, Connie!!!

Workshop Feedback

Our Boomer Power workshops have almost wrapped up, and the feedback has been excellent. Most people were surprised by the course content, which focused on personal safety and self-defense. Here’s what some participants had to say:

“You’re not offending anybody by doing what you want to do – I’ve always been afraid of hurting other peoples’ feelings, but now I’m thinking of my own!” Yvonne

“For me, just knowing these techniques has given me so much self-confidence.” Peggy

“This class has given me the feeling of more self-control. The instructors are so good. At first I wasn’t sure, but, I’m glad I changed my mind and decided to take this class.” Leroy

A huge thank-you to Marylaine, Raymond and Ean from the Kid Power team for coming and sharing their expertise with us!

Upcoming Series: STYLE

Calling all Boomers! Come out and join us for our upcoming interactive workshop focused on STYLE. Do you want to learn how to put together a great-looking outfit on a dime? Or maybe learn how to perform simple alterations to bring a dull piece of clothing back to life?? On three Mondays , from October 18th to November 1st, at 2:00 pm, the one and only Connie Acton will be dropping in at our “Drop-In” to share her talents with us! Here’s how the series will break-down:

Start with an introduction covering the important difference between style and fashion. Beauty always has to do with what is appropriate -- one's personal style which can cost pennies versus fashion, usually is more costly. This leads naturally to:

Tailor-made approaches are what we need, is what our wardrobe must address if we want to be as gracious & attractive as possible. That means a management approach: analyze, plan, execute and re-assess.

Your body is your canvas; your life is where you hang it...or want to. You can only have personal style if you want to celebrate your personhood and life, not someone else's! Who are you? Where do you spend most of your time? What are you wearing when you feel most comfortable?

Less is more and it's usually a line that suits you best. Emphasis here is on planning: the right cut, color, and cloth add up to personal chic & the comfort we will need as we move into our more "relaxed" years. The goal is to help us find a sense of presence and self-confidence.

Ending with elegance, how to tie it all together and have fun doing it. Top to bottom -- the hair, the shoes and, of course, what's free - the biggest most genuine and open smile in the world.

This will be a practical, interactive workshop with lots of hands-on time. Interested? Call Bill at the NDGSCC to register (514 487-1311), or call Bonnie at the NDG Food Depot (514 483-4680). Don’t miss it!
